9 x 12 - original oil on panelI did this painting at Ahle Point Beach in Kalama on July 8. That is the Columbia River looking south, and there really was a sailboat going by.
It was such a pretty day, but windy. When I was finished, I stood up and the wind whipped the painting right into the sand. Geez, what to do? I read somewhere that if that happens, and it has happened to other artists, that you should just let it dry with the sand on it. So I did. After a week I brushed the sand off, but it was a bit like brushing sand off sandpaper. I about wore the skin off my fingers. But it worked ! What I'll do for a painting !
